“The best keynote I’ve seen!”
— Participant, Tulsa Fit 2 Learn Summit

Thanks to the 120 Tulsa educators who came to last week's Fit 2 Learn Summit and participated in my keynote address, "Do Something Extraordinary!" I say participated in a keynote, since there was no way I was going to let educators sit and get. If you are familiar with Marcia Tate's "Sit and Get Won't Grow Dendrites", you know that youth and adults can't sit through more than 20 minutes of information without movement or an energizer. You'll lose them. So, as I prepared my presentation, I made sure to have the participants of the conference up and moving at least 10 times during the 55 minute keynote. It worked! They loved it! Each movement related to a lesson learned on my bicycle journey a year ago. I have a feeling each participant will remember those 5 lessons as a result of a movement attached to it.

  1. Determine Who's on Your Team
  2. Embrace the Journey, Not the Destination
  3. Sustainability
  4. Share Your Story
  5. Celebrate Success
“Jess was an inspiration today!”
— Participant, Tulsa Fit 2 Learn Summit

Since I'm doing a similar keynote in Maine, I don't want to spoil the activities I had participants do, but let's say- it was extraordinary! What a fun group and the objectives of motivating, energizing and sharing content around school health were met!

The rest of the day, I was thrilled to see a very colorful lunch! Lunch was provided by a local chef using local ingredients and businesses. Victoria Bartlet, Tulsa's First Lady sat in on my School Health Guidelines workshop for 3.5 hours in the afternoon. And, I finally had a chance to meet Regional Director Nick Hickman from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation!
